Hey Guys
I am a reformed morbidly obese person. What I mean by reformed is that like alcoholism, overeating is an addiction.. Unlike alcohol, though, food is a necessary thing in our lives. It is a tremendous struggle for someone who suffers food addiction to live a normal life. They suffer ridicule on a daily basis, and most morbidly obese people are self-loathing as well. They hate themselves for overindulgence but at the same time they want more. All of us are guilty of pointing at or whispering about an obese person we see eating at a buffet or see riding one of the electric chairs in the grocery store, or shudder when we have to sit next to them on an airplane. Most of these folks know they are being viewed as undesirable and it hurts them to the core, but they still can’t help themselves. They still want to eat ‘til they can’t hold anymore. It is hard for the obese person to do things fit people or average people take for granted like standing up from sitting in a chair or walking around a mall or amusement park.
Morbidly obese people are in denial. They tell themselves they don’t eat that much when in fact they eat enough for two. Is there an answer to their problem? Not ‘til they can look at themselves in the mirror and admit they have a problem and its not about anyone but themselves. I know there are some special cases where a medical condition can cause weight problems, but the majority of them have a normal healthy metabolism that just can’t burn all the food put into the system. I truly believe most obese people are afraid to take the first step out of fear. They want to lose weight but are afraid of failing. Even when they do start to lose the weight, others are still critical and whisper nasty things like “they lost weight but they will just gain it back.“ I have a young lady in my community I talk to every once in awhile about her weight. She weighs 345 lbs and is living in misery, but she just will not commit to trying to change her life. We all know somebody in our communities that are afflicted with this problem. I would challenge anyone with enough interest to read this, to reach out to one of these folks and talk to them. Try and find out who they really are, it may be that somebody taking an interest in them can be the spur they need to change their life.
Cya soon
Wink
